First meeting of the NELD expert group

The first meeting of the expert group on non-economic losses (since Paris: NELD = NELs) was held 15-16 September 2016 in Bonn. Experts from different NELD fields were present and discussed the next steps with the four members of the WIM Executive Committee that are members of the expert group. Go here for a summary of the proceedings.

The Solomon Islands – Loss of biodiversity, territory, homes

A new study provides evidence on the submersion of entire islands in the Pacific. Five tiny islands have been lost to sea level rise, seeing the disappearance of rich patches of biodiversity. Coastal erosion has eaten up more than half the habitable area of another island, Nuatambu Island, submerging 11 houses and leading to the relocation of its people.
